Design, development and Series production of Power Distribution System For Nuclear Submarine.

  • INDIA was lacking a Nuclear submarine with capabilities to fire Missiles from under water
  • Firing of missiles required coordination of various systems to maintain pressure balance, Room for error was Zero
  • EMEPL was tasked with developing a PDP providing 28KVA in a small space meeting MIL 461F ,MIL 810D, can withstand 50G shock from missile fire that can work in the harsh submarine environment completely unmanned and which had zero room for failure.

What we did ??

  • We designed and developed the PDP packing high power while keeping the system thermally stable and system health monitoring relayed to command.
  • The PDP were designed to be fully redundant and Internal Modules and cards were designed to be hot-swapable, with custom card cage
  • Entire Cabinet was made from HE30 Extruded alloy designed in house with help of Ansys Simulation for thermal management

Results

  • India Became one in 4 nations to have a Nuclear capable submarine. The missile system was first of its kind in India,
  • PDP met all the parameters as per DQAN and Sea trials were successful
  • EMEPL is now in series production of the system.
